How to choose economical LEDs

Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs have already proved to be longer-lasting than conventional bulbs and economical, despite their prices. Besides, you don’t need to choose harsh whites, but also warm colours.

Benefits of LED lights:

• LED lights are energy-efficient and can last for more than 20 years and give bright light during this period.
• You can choose from a wide range of shapes and colours, so your choice is not limited.

To make it easier for you to choose LED bulbs, here are five guidelines:

1. Replace LEDs where they are needed most

Either replace your bulbs with LED bulbs as they burn out or do them altogether, depending on your budget. Whichever of the two you choose, your investment will pay off in electricity savings in the long run. To reap the benefit of cost savings, it’s best to install LED Indoor Lighting in the most-used rooms of your home or office. Or, it will take much longer before your investment pays off.

2. Look out for lumens, not watts

Watts measure the amount of energy the bulb extracts; it’s not a measure of its brightness. So, when shopping for LED bulbs, look out for lumens which measure their brightness. For example, a 60 watt incandescent bulb would need an 800 lumen LED bulb.

3. Choose the colour you want for your room

4. LEDs can be matched to your light fixtures

5. What’s the life expectancy of the LED bulb?

Not all light bulbs function for the same length of time; while others last longer, there are those that pack up quickly. Hence, it is necessary that when you’re shopping for LED bulbs that you look on the back of the bulb for its life expectancy, based usually on three hours of use per day. If you’re going to fix it in a part of your home that’s highly used, look for a bulb with a longer life expectancy than others.
